A boat caught fire near Santa Cruz Island, off the coast of Ventura County, California, early Monday morning.
The Ventura County Fire Department told KTLA that there were 34 fatalities. On Monday afternoon the Coast Guard told Fox 11 it had recovered four bodies, but the fate of the remaining 30 passengers was unknown.
The diving boat was in the midst of a three-day trip and was scheduled to return to port today.
On Monday afternoon a US Coast Guard spokesperson told Fox 11 that four bodies had been recovered.
